Indigo supports REST

Filed under: Uncategorized — Mark Baker @ 9:27 pm

Dare Obasanjo reports
that Indigo will include support for RESTful service development! A very welcome move indeed.

It will be interesting to see how the APIs deal with specs such as SOAP and WS-Addressing which can be used RESTfully and non-RESTfully. It seems to me that the worst thing that could happen for developers, would be to have two completely independent API packages with little or no significant overlap; a message is a message, after all.

  1. Mark,

There is no plan to introduce another API.

We just need to make our HTTP transport a bit more flexible than it is today.

In Indigo, a message is a message is a message…

I anxiously await your feedback once the bits are in your hands.

  2. That’s good news, Don. If you need a hand … 8-) Seriously though, that’s tough stuff. I tried to guide the Axis team a couple of years back on a similar issue (adding support for the SOAP 1.2 WebMethod feature), but they opted for a new API instead of reusing/augmenting the existing API.
